Science and Discovery
Our motto is Explore | Discover | Create | Learn. We believe that all of life is a discovery, with a deep-seated desire to understand and improve. Our humanity drives us to ask, “why?” As soon as a child understands that something is, they want to know “why?” Why are there clouds in the sky today? Why can’t we fly? Why does a cake look different when it comes out of the oven? By asking questions your child is showing their inner scientist.
The Science and Discovery element of our curriculum happens as much in Music and Sports as it does in the Science and Discovery Studio as we take a holistic approach to our work with children. Our curriculum focuses on developing problem-solving skills that encompass all areas of learning. We encourage our children to design experiments to test theories and hypotheses. We use the Socratic method of asking children to answer the questions themselves, while helping them understand how to find the answers.
The Science and Discovery Studio is a safe place to do messy and smelly experiments such as erupting volcanoes and flowing rivers. We can make a model village and work out how many houses will fit in a street which build upon the learning of mathematics. We can work to understand the lifecycle of a butterfly as it transitions from a caterpillar, to a cocoon to being able to watch them hatch. We plant seeds, water them and watch them grow into vegetables that we can eat. And please don’t forget Chemistry. Children love mixing elements, using heat as a catalyst and eating yummy bread that they have made themselves.
All of these elements combine to create an environment that nurtures your child’s inner scientist and puts them on a path of discovery that will continue throughout their lives.
